The Craters to Coast Kids School Program formally The Green Kids School Program offers two schools $1000 to conduct an environmental project with the aim of encouraging students to take responsibility of their local environment through education and hands on environmental works. 

  

This program is run annually.  

  

Preference is given to projects that:

- Aim to develop or enhance a student environment group within the school

- Focus on the local environment

- Encourage students to take a role of responsibility

- Promote leadership and environmental stewardship

- Directly engage students in on-ground environmental sustainability activities

- Build environmental awareness within the community

- That are innovative and creative especially in their reporting

- Demonstrate strong environmental education outcomes and links to the school curriculum

- Support a range of activities

- Innovative reporting techniques

  

Activities not supported by this grant:

- Construction or upgrade of seating

- Airfares

- Teacher wages

- Water tanks or irrigation equipment totalling more than 50% of the funding sought

- Administration and labour costs

- Construction of garden shed totalling more than 50% of the funding sought

- Purchase of equipment totalling more than 25% of the funding sought

  

Your project will be assessed on its:

- Expected educational and environmental benefits

- Expected level of student involvement, e.g. students identifying local problems and designing and implementing solutions

- Expected level of involvement of the broader community

- Integration into the school curriculum to maximize environmental learning

- Potential to develop the students skills and ability to contribute to environmental restoration in the future

- Project activities and budget, which must be feasible and technically-sound

- Practical and sustainable activities

- Ability to establish or enhance a student environment group

Arum Lily Mapping Workshop

Come and share your knowledge of Arum Lily infestations within the Princetown area, with HDLN, Princetown Landcare and Parks Victoria. We will be undertaking trials of Arum Lily control methods and would like your help with identifying infestations. We would also appreciate any feedback you have on any methods you may have used in the past. 

When: 10am-1pm Tuesday 13th feb

Dung Beetle Surveys

This season has been different from those of past years, what has this meant for your dung beetles? 

In 2008-2009, the Dairy Action Program provided 67 dung beetle colonies to landholders for release across the district.
