Bitterns on Farms Project

A partnership between Birdlife Australia and Heytesbury District Landcare Network

The Jean & Chester Porter Bitterns on Farm Project is an initiative seeking to improve conservation outcomes for one of our most threatened waterbirds with help from communities that manage, live and work in their wetland landscapes.

Heytesbury District Landcare Network is helping Chris Purnell at Birdlife Australia make contact with landholders in our area. We appreciate very much the assistance that local Landcare groups, landholders and community members have given us.

Birdlife Australia are pleased to report the Heytesbury is a bona fide Bittern hotspot

A full house joined us
Saturday 24th August 2024
to celebrate the Bitterns and this project at Lake Elingamite.

People's highlights were evenly divided between the birdwatching in the field with experts and the presentation from Birdlife Australia.
